><: Level 2
i-cubed-HYPERMEDIA, those sneaky folks behind the very sexy, mesmerizing, and idiomatic video piece that is B-17 have been at it again, right under my nose! (I wrote about b-seventeen here.) I just noticed today they’ve already released several parts of a new short film, which is still a work in progress.
The film is described on the website by the Chicago based filmmakers as “A rhythmic and glittering master/slave story about international economics”
Fair enough. So far I’ve only watched the first part.
It nicely lived up to my expectations. It’s tough to find stuff with this level of originality and quirkiness that also has great production value. I look forward to watching the rest of the film, in the, uh, privacy and comfort of my own bedroom.

Super Blackout!
We’ve all had our moment or two where we got so fucked up we barely remembered how to talk.
@SuperBR has had lots and lots of those moments.
Be careful on those bikes, kids!
Cycling as a means of transportation is fantastic! You get good exercise. It’s cheap. You don’t have to threaten the lives of others with a 2 ton death machine, and you don’t have to contribute to the horrible political and environmental consequences of big oil.
Just make sure ya ride safe. Two of my housemates were in bike accidents last month. One of them (@SuperBR on twitter) broke his shoulder and the other hurt his knee. Now admittedly, SuperBR was fucking blackout whasted when he fell off his bike. But the other guy only had a couple beers in him. So yeah. Biking drunk. Not such a good idea. But better than a car!

The only time I’ve fallen off a bike since about 18 years ago, by the way, was a few months ago when I was shithouse, Holy-Fuck-Batman wasted and on my way home. : > But I’m good at falling and managed to get away unharmed after directing a few swears at the empty night.
getting my hands dirty
I haven’t been screwing around on the internets much lately. My blog is covered in mold and my podcast is so neglected it’s beginning to crack and fall apart. I only found out anyone cares about the damn thing three months after I abandoned it, when people started saying, “Are ya still doin’ erraticast or what!?”
Maybe I would have done a better job keeping up with it if more listeners had given me feedback when I was actually doing the show?
I’ve had some other good reasons not to be around. I’ve caught Portland Volunteerism Fever. I’ve been spending a lot of my time here:
Free Geek is a community technology center that reduces the impact of ewaste by taking donations of used electronics, mashing them together into usable computers which they give away (or sell in the thrift store if they can’t) and recycling the broken/unusable components. They’ll give a computer to anyone who volunteers there for 24 hours. And they’ll also teach you how to build computers.
One of the many jobs you can do there is tear apart printers for recycling. As an ex art student who had to print photos with crappy inkjets on a regular basis, this provides a certain therapeutic pleasure.
I also volunteer weekly at SCRAP. From the scrap website:
SCRAP–The School and Community Reuse Action Project–is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and our mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community.
the best song in the universe
I’ve decided Row Row Row Your Boat is the best song in the universe. It contains a succinct explanation of the human condition and a strategy for living in that condition. Plus, it’s got a catchy tune the kids can dance to.
