PDX Media Round-up! Popples! Vaginas!

Our Popples Must Be Local and Sustainable – Sam Adams appeared today on KBOO show Locus Focus to talk about issues of local, sustainable food production. However, because we’re 12, we thought the most important part of the entire program happened when he made a flub and said, “Popples.” when attempting to say that “things’ll be popping up.” (He was talking about local farms, you perv.)
Does the Mayor of Portland have a secret thing for 80’s plush toys that can hide in their back-mounted pouches?

local, sustainable food that Mayor Sam Adams has no interest in
Melissa Lion Wants Your Vagina To Smell Good – Also talking about local and sustainable food today is Melissa Lion. It’s right here on Recovering Californian! You’d better get those vaginas all smelling nice before you head out to BackFencePDX this Wednesday. If you’re wearing nylon panties, she can smell you from a mile away.
I’ve got a much shorter version of this hygienic primer for males. I call it, Wash Yo’ Dick and the entire content of the guide is right there in the title.
Mojitos?
Here’s a photo from Sam Adams’ website. He’s with the new City Auditor LaVonne Griffin-Valade (what a name!) The willingness to put a photo like this on his own website? Just another reason why Sam is an awesome mayor.
Captions? Mine is MOJITOS!!!
Sam Adams Buys Hat, Hat Doesn’t Match Shirt

NEWS FLASH! Today, at the Mississippi Street Fair, Sam Adams purchased a hat, shown above, from Flip Side Hats, and then posted this photo on his twitter feed. It’s unclear what implications the hat will have for the recall campaign or the future of MLS and the CRC. However, it’s quite clear the effect the hat has on Sam’s outfit, plainly illustrated by wildly clashing colors.
That being said, it might be a pretty cool hat, with a shirt that matches. Flipside hats also gets big ups for making their reversible hats almost entirely out of re-used materials.
Tom Potter and the Adams Recall Can Suck my Missile Pop!
Stephen Marc Beaudoin, bless his razor sharp Facebook watching eyes, just broke a story on Portland Mercury’s Blogtown about Tom Potter and his declaration in support of the Adams Recall Campaign.
Even more important than that is a weird mixup in Facebook that put my avatar from Blogtown into the status update referencing the article.

I guess it must have pulled it from the comments, since I was the first person to comment and there was no photo on the article. It must just grab the first image to appear, which would be, my avatar. Sweet.
Sharing My Feelings with Portland City Council
I sent the following letter to all five members of Portland’s City Council this morning. Since I can’t be there on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM, to address them in person, I am limited to email.

They look friendly enough. Don't be afraid!
Last time I wrote them, about the 39th Ave. renaming proposal, I received an actual response from Sam Adam’s office, and a form letter from Nick Fish’s (the contents of which clearly betrayed no one had read my letter.) No response from Leonard, Saltzman, or Fritz. Let’s see what they say, or if they respond, this time! I encourage you to write emails to the members of city council as well. Participation in your government is important!

Members of Portland’s City Council,
As a proud resident of Portland, I’m happy to see us leading the nation in things like sustainability and bike-friendliness. However, I’m also disturbed by the fact that we’ve followed other cities in the trend of taking civil rights away from the homeless, specifically via the sit/lie law (14A.50.030). While SAFE contains admiriable provisions, providing city services, in exchange for the ability to violate civil rights, is a hardly ethical, “quick fix” to the homeless problem. Anyway, the city has failed to deliver the capacity of services promised, while vigorously enforcing the sit/lie ordinance, almost always against the homeless.
Despite Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Michael McShane declaring the law unconstitutional. (“The ordinance encourages arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement,”) you chose in April to extend the law “for further consideration”. Does this deliberation include removing the affordable housing portion of the Urban Renewal fund in Lents? Or putting a giant neon rose up on the Waterfront?
I urge you to not use this extension as a stalling measure, which I perceive it to be, and address this matter as soon as possible. I humbly await the day when I can feel that my beloved city isn’t violating the civil rights of others, regardless of their lack of economic viability or wealth. Hopefully I won’t have to wait until October.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Will
Stand by Your Sam
As I’m sure you already know, Sam Adams issued a statement yesterday stating his intent to return to work tomorrow and continue being the mayor he promised us he would be.
This is a great victory for the people of Portland against the narrow-minded and the knee-jerk media blitz. But it’s not over yet. The conservative media outlets who called for Sam to resign will most likely not let up. Along with the people who think in black and white and have been easily manipulated, they’ll probably make a good amount of noise. The Oregonian will most likely continue their rash of ridiculous stories surrounding the issue. Maybe they’ll even drag Beau and more of his oddly named pets out again and put who knows what in his mouth. (heh).
It’s important to write your commissioners and your local papers telling them you support Sam and that he should have a fair chance to do all the great things for this city that he promised. Talk to people who are against Sam in an assertive, but positive way, explaining your viewpoint and the need to really think about this issue and the shades of gray surrounding it, before taking action based on moral absolutes.
We are better than petty accusations, impositions of biased morality, and absolute judgement without consideration for unique situations.
I’m confident that, if we can approach this situation like intelligent, compassionate adults, we can get through this quickly and move on to the bright future this city deserves.
I’ll have more specific information on what you can do to help over the next few days.
Leave Sam Adams A-LONE!
Leave him aloooooooooooone!!!

He had good reason to lie. He’s going to be a good mayor. And I’m happy he lied, because if he hadn’t, he might not have gotten elected. He lied about a very personal issue, that was no business of the press’ anyway.
Now the press has a witch hunt against him. They want to make an example of him to show it’s unacceptable to lie to them about anything. I don’t agree. I think it was acceptable. I don’t think everything works in black and white.
The Portland media is running a genuine smear campaign against him and it’s just sad. Now, if it happens to come out that Mr. Breedlove wasn’t 18 when they first did the nasty, that’s a different story, but as for now, LEAVE HIM ALONE!
